Beginners Class
YMCA Hall - Saturdays 10am - 12noon

Students will learn the necessary footwork and formations. A partner is not required. Soft shoes with no heel must be worn. The class is suitable for complete beginners or those wishing to improve their standard of footwork and knowledge of formations.

 
 

Advanced Class
Grey Friars College - Thursdays 7:30 - 9:30pm

This class will suit students with a good basic knowledge of steps and formations. The aim will be to improve the standard of technique and footwork with the inclusion of challenging dances. Dances from local Scottish Dance social events, including the Essex Caledonian Ball, will be practised. Members of the local demonstration team are usually chosen from this class.

 
 

Colchester Caledonian Scottish Dancers
Mondays 7:30 - 9:30pm

All dancers are welcome. Most dances are walked before being danced and help is given by the MC at all times. The group generally meets every Monday except for Bank Holidays. This is a very sociable group and the Caledonian Society arranges many outings of general interest, including a formal Burns Dinner each year.

 
 

Class for the Older Dancer
Grey Friars - Mondays 10:30 - 12noon

This class will suit those wishing to enjoy social Scottish Dancing. Footwork will be revised as appropriate and formations will be practised. The main aim is to enjoy dancing in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. The pace is to suit the older dancer and the class is therefore suitable for all abilities.

 
 

Belstead House, Ipswich
Resedential Weekend Courses

Situated in beautiful, mature grounds, Belstead House is an education and conference centre run by Suffolk County Council. The aim of the weekend course in Scottish Country Dancing is to teach dancing technique. There are classes Saturday morning and Sunday, social dancing on Friday and Saturday evening and plenty of opportunity to practise footwork and formations. A basic knowledge of the steps and formations is necessary.

 
 

Castle Park Dancing

At this open-air event, the Caledonian Society Scottish Country dancers invite members of the public to watch or participate in the dancing in Upper Castle Park in Colchester. A partner is not required and music will be provided by the Caledonian Reelers. The programme will consist of a mixture of popular dances and dances for children and beginners. Catherine acting as MC will guide dancers.

 
 

Belstead House, Ipswich

Social Dances in the Area

All dancers are welcome at the evening social Scottish Country Dances which are held throughout the year in Colchester and the nearby towns. These include Ipswich, Clacton, Brightlingsea, Witham, Chelmsford and further afield.
